Consider this a more “low maintenance” post since it doesn’t involve too much analog work. General advice, especially when you are just moving in - make sure to compile a contact list of businesses and people who can help you out - especially in an emergency.
Key action: Prepare a digital contact list to help you maintain your home
Why this matters: We often need the contact in a stressful situation (e.g. toilet is overflowing, the lock won’t open, ghosts, etc…) so it’s better to have a list already handy versus trying to find someone in the moment.
Maintenance Must Do
Compile your digital contact list. To make it easier, I created a template and added it as an extra sheet in the overall maintenance plan.
Oh, and how does one find trusted vendors?
This often takes a lot of research which is why it’s better to start now. Beyond Yelp, I’ve found that Nextdoor (the neighborhood) social media network also works well and people respond quickly (at least for me)
Also, seems obvious but get your neighbors contact info as well. I know you’re super digital which is why you’re following this Substack but if you’re vaccinated and still haven’t met your neighbors (and they are vaccinated) maybe venture out and exchange contact information at the bare minimum. They also likely know trusted vendors and services to help you as well. In the template, I added a section to put in your neighbors contact info.
